Cough

Coughs can be productive (with mucus) or dry. Choosing the right product depends on the type of cough.

  • Cough worsening at night

  • Dextromethorphan (DM)

  • Guaifenesin (expectorant)

    Loosens mucus in wet cough

    Examples: Mucinex, Robitussin Chest Congestion

  • Honey-based syrups

    Natural soothing option

    Examples: Zarbee's, Vicks Honey

  • Menthol throat drops

Helpful Tips

  • Elevate your head at night to reduce coughing
  • Stay hydrated to thin mucus
  • Avoid cough suppressants if you have a productive cough

When to See a Doctor

See a doctor if cough lasts more than 3 weeks, produces blood or discolored mucus, or is accompanied by wheezing or difficulty breathing.
